Care Guide

How to care for your alpaca

Alpaca fiber is naturally resilient and low-maintenance. With the right care your blanket, hat or gloves will last decades and grow softer with each wash.

Washing

  • · Hand wash cold (max 30°C)
  • · Use gentle wool or baby shampoo
  • · Squeeze gently — never wring
  • · Bed blankets: dry clean recommended
  • · Blended 50/50: machine wash gentle

Drying

  • · Lay flat on a clean towel — never hang
  • · Reshape gently while damp
  • · Away from direct sunlight and heat
  • · Never tumble dry

Storage

  • · Fold — never hang
  • · Store in a breathable cotton bag
  • · Cedar blocks to deter moths naturally
  • · Store clean — moths are attracted to oils

Pilling

  • · Light pilling is normal at first
  • · Remove with a cashmere comb or shaver
  • · Reduces significantly after first washes
  • · Baby alpaca pills less than standard

Stains

  • · Act quickly — blot, never rub
  • · Cold water only — heat sets stains
  • · Tiny drop of mild soap on stubborn spots
  • · Never use bleach

Why alpaca lasts

  • · No lanolin — hypoallergenic & odour-resistant
  • · Hollow-core fiber retains warmth without moisture
  • · Gets softer with every careful wash
  • · A well-cared-for blanket lasts 20–30 years

The Golden Alpaca Story

Fiber from the
roof of the world,
woven by hand

Baby alpaca fiber is harvested once a year from animals grazing high in the Peruvian Andes. At 4,000 meters above sea level, the extreme climate produces fiber of unmatched fineness — under 22 microns, finer than cashmere. We partner directly with 340 artisan families across the Andean region, paying above fair-trade prices and preserving centuries of weaving tradition.

Under 22 microns Finer than cashmere, softer than most luxury fibers available today.
No synthetic dyes Colors come from natural plant and mineral pigments used for generations.
Hypoallergenic & durable The scales in alpaca fiber lay flat, eliminating the itch of wool entirely.
